i think with ba you have to travel with your pet however regs change all the time, best to check direct with the airlines.

I don't think so any more. I talked to BA cargo in Dulles recently. Suzy is in the PETs scheme and so will return quarantine free (yeehaw! She went through that in 2000). Anyway, I already booked my flight (July 11 - yeehaw! again) but you can't book your dog in cargo until 14 days prior to flying.

I asked if she can't go on my flight, will I have to pay extra if she is unaccompanied. They said no; presumably if I had to accompany her they would have said so at that point. Best to call them to be sure though, as TruBrit said.

Hi

Does anyone know about taking pets back to Perth, when they originated from Perth last Dec? The DEFRA people weren't very helpful and just sent me a stack of paperwork. Hubbie stil hasn't a job and we are seriously thinking of returning but all up inthe air at mo so any help anyone can give would be grateful.

From the British Airways website (US edition - go to the home page if you are resident in another country) this is the info on transporting your pets:

http://www.britishairways.com/travel/pet/public/en_us

As you can see from the link - you can choose to fly your pet accompanied (ie. you are on the same flight) or unaccompanied. This does not apply from certain other countries of departure so do check the regulations from the BA website for the country of your current residence.

There is hardly any information (on the US website) for Virgin Atlantic, but here is the link for their info on pets:
