Ok - I didn't say I was going to be able to get it right every time...

You couldn't find any Vimto (although admittedly you weren't trying very hard), although you did enjoy a small child-like carton of Ribena (the one that you push the straw through the hole) on no fewer that two consecutive days, and which you proclaimed to be almost the same.

Monster Munch was not to be found, but your pudding-longing was in some way satiated by the most amazing hot toffee sponge that came with a blob of vanilla ice cream at a poncy gastro-pub that you were dragged along to kicking and screaming on the last night.

Strangely enough, you didn't find this as satisfying as you'd hoped. The laughable reporting and right-wing ranting damaged the structural integrity of the actual paper they were printed on, and alas your finger went through. You avoided picking your nose for the rest of the day.

You were moderately more successful as the paper held. But you did find yourself scrubbing crap headlines off your arse for days.

Fortunately you remembered exactly how minging they were, and the very thought of that disgusting jelly nonsense that lurks between the (and I use this term loosely) "meat" and the pastry was enough to make you hurl.

Therefore you didn't have one (in case that wasn't clear already).

Now you did set your sights a little high, given that this was essentially a work trip and only a week in length, but your outcomes versus your initial goals are recorded below:

Marks & Sparks Macaroni Cheese You remembered you were traveling for work and with lunch meetings every day too this was a non-starter...
Packet of Frazzles You decided that ready salted Hula Hoops would be better so you had those instead.
Can (not bottle) of diet irn bru Carton of Ribena.....? (See above).
Large Bar Milky Bar Now you actually brought one of those back with you so you'll be enjoying that again sometime.
Large Bar Galaxy You were distracted by the half-price Toblerones at the airport...
Large Bar Bournville (see above)
Fish Supper from Bervie Chipper or Chicken Maryland Supper with Curry Sauce (or both) This was a stretch, but you were able to manage a gorgeous bag of chips (to line your stomach) on the way to the pub in Ealing one evening.
Fried Egg Sandwich on Warburtons White Bread (spread lavishly with Lurpack) No.
2kg Crisp Back Bacon No.
Mathesons Smoked Sausage Definitely no.
Cheese on Toast (it's the bread thing) with branston pickle You were living out of a hotel room. So, no.
Scones with Raspberry Jam & Clotted Cream You did have ample chance for this, but fortunately you remembered that clotted cream = coronary suicide, and you did have a return ticket after all...
Sticky Toffee Pudding with extra thick double cream Yes! And it was soooo good that you almost came. In front of all your work colleagues.

That should do for starters .....

Oh and a bacon butty on crusty white bread with butter and HP.
Considering that stinky beef flavour was essentially a bad thing, you opted instead for the purity of ready salted, which let all that Hula Hoop goodness come flooding through. You even ate them two (or sometimes three) at a time as you were enjoying them so much (although you were also pressed for time and needed to go and catch the tube).

When you saw the pasty shop you were very tempted indeed, it has to be said. But at the end of the day you were off for a few beers which would inevitably be followed by yet another gut-busting curry*, so you wimped out, you big wimp, you.

*turned out to be Prawn Vindaloo, egg rice and onion kulcha, and you managed to eat it all so you considered the sacrifice well-made.

Thats all thankyou
When you got round to thinking about the grapes you realized exactly how poncy this all sounded so you went looking for a simple cheese butty* instead.

*But actually ended up with an M&S Scottish Smoked Salmon and herbed cream cheese one instead, which doesn't sound poncy in the slightest. No way.

Minstrels were consumed, but strangely they didn't seem as nice as the ones you remembered, and you started to wonder whether they'd changed the recipe or something. You already had Maltesers at home in the cupboard from last time, and knowing that you can actually have too much of a good thing (with the exception of real ale, curry and sprouts of course) you decided against getting any more.

A gallon of cask-conditioned ale serves as a great painkiller in a pinch.
