Finally, some news
Three months and 1 day after our arrival back in the UK, we are finally on the way to getting our lives back.
We've been staying in a one-bedroom flat in Nottingham, courtesy of a very generous friend. It's been a great place to catch our breath and find our feet again. Hubby has found a job near Aldbourne in Wiltshire and I spoke to the letting agent today about the cottage we're hoping to rent. We're good to go! It's a 2 bed semi, 250 years old in the village. The nearest town is Marlborough. Hubby's boss is helping with the rent (which is quite high). I probably stand a better chance of finding work down there. We've finally allowed ourselves to get excited about this! We're traveling down there on Wednesday to sign the tenancy agreement and hubby will sign his contract. He'll be a barn manager at a pre-training yard, breaking in yearlings for other trainers and for the yard's owner. The ironic/karmic thing is that I used to work for the architects who designed the place. It was one of the last jobs I did before we left for the US:blink: I've just filled in the in-year transfer form for our son, who will have to change schools. That's the only thing I'm depressed about because he's done really well, the teachers like him, he has lots of friends. Still, we have to go where the work is. I'm so relieved we've managed to get it all sorted before Christmas and I can now actually look forward to our first English Christmas in 8 years! |

Great news! Whilst it is a shame about your son, at least now you will be able to provide some stability and in a super part of the country as well! I quite fancy Marlborough! Now, fingers crossed that your job hunt is just as successful:fingerscrossed:

I was stationed at the Radio School (R.A.F Yatesbury) and of course Marlborough was just an afternoon cycle ride, on sports afternoon for me. A fantastic town, steeped in history. You will definitely need your camera - the main street, is ace. Good luck - we may cross paths, when I return to the UK, in February, you never know. Don |

Thank you all for your comments. I have a stinking cold today but it doesn't matter. It's just so good to be here. Yesterday I had a Doctor's appointment. I'd run out of Blood Pressure meds and, although we're only temporary residents here in Nottingham, the local practice managed to get me in. The Doctor (who was originally from Russia) took my BP and, in spite of all we've been through, it's NORMAL :blink: I'm beginning to think that being back in the UK is good for me in more ways than one. It's lovely to be in the bureaucratic and loving arms of the NHS again.:thumbup: I said as much to the Doctor and she said that people don't appreciate the NHS until they've had to deal with a different system. Hope you have a good journey back, Don. Any idea where you'll be living yet? |

Today, i went online and bought furniture. :wub: Big ticket items like beds and things to sit on. The other bits and pieces are in storage, so I have to inform the shipping company. I'm glad we decided to store with them, because although the storage fees were a bit more expensive, the delivery of the stuff and unpacking is all part of the service. I can't recommend these shippers enough, they've been so efficient and I discovered, when I decided to store with them that 60 days insurance was included in the original shipping price. Bonus.
So, now we know when the furniture is being delivered, we've set to move in next Thursday. We're meeting the landlord tomorrow. I spoke with him on the phone today and he sounded quite nice. It's going to be strange to leave this little flat, we've felt safe and comfortable here, but it's time to be out in the big wide world! :eek: |
