Favorite kids programs...

I am a child of the 70's, 80's...my age...late 30 ish..
What was your favorite show? The opening to 'bag pus' makes me cry to this day. How about that goofy dog in 'rhubarb and custard'. Watching those shoes reminds me of eating penguins biscuits and luncheon meat sarnies...how posh was my family

Me, too. Trumpton, Camberwick Green and Chigley were all must sees when I was a Kid. Brian Cant is worthy of a Kinighthood, for all the Joy and Entertainmet he brought to Kids of Several Generations. At 78, he is still going, but, fighting Parkinson's Disease. Here's a Clip, from Chigley;

Spongebob is actually a work of genius! Never heard of or watched the programs you mentioned, were they all plasticine and puppets?

That's one of my favorites too! The cartoon network in general makes me want to throw the Telly out the window!

How about that art show with an old guy demonstrating different art techniques and then a longish segment showing lots of children's artwork they'd sent in? I think Morph was in it too. I loved that show.

Fraggle rock. I'm informed I used to watch it in a loop. Paddington bear. Thunder cats.something about bears that I think was a rip off of upstairs downstairs. Let's go with upstairs downstairs bears.

Surprised no one has brought up any of the live-action programmes from their child-hoods. The ones I remember fondly (and not so fondly) are Catweazle, The Double Deckers (with that balding guy from Spooks looking a LOT younger) and The Tomorrow People. There were also those interminable Childrens Film Foundation efforts that adults seem to think were great but I found boring in the extreme.
For some weird reason I also remember the Coal Hole Club that featured the Grumbleweeds.
Anyone grow up in Scotland in the 70's? You may have watched Glen Michael's Cartoon Cavalcade. Basically U.S. cartoons with some bands mixed in. A precursor to those Saturday morning TV shows - Swap Shop and the mighty TISWAS.

Now my favorite is the Clangers, which was old when I was young. At the time I loved Thundercats, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors and Ulysses 31.

Strangely enough - I was just saying to the wife over the weekend that our neighbours son looks like Pootle from the Flumps..........

Only 13 episodes made, I could have sworn there were hundreds LOL

Just found this as well - this is so cool:

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that it was funded by anti-environmental groups. Plants grown by an incredibly smart man (scientist!) and the only way to stop them is with brute force using cars and giant saws (monster trucks!).

My kids are loving the Clangers right now. "More moon mice, daddy!"

I also loved Worzel Gummidge, the slightly creepy scarecrow who had a cheeky crush on Aunt Sally, a lovely lady scarecrow.
Grange Hill was banned in my house because my Mum said the kids were 'common as muck' lol! I would sneak off to watch it at friends houses though.

Where do you stand on the Tiswas/Swop shop question?

I plead the fifth as I do not want to incriminate myself.

Tales of the Riverbank (remember Hammy Hamster & Roderick Rat?), Pipkins, Rainbow, Captain Pugwash, The Herbs, Hector's House, Mary, Mungo & Midge, Tom & Jerry, Dastardy & Mutley, Scooby Doo, Black Beauty, Blue Peter, Cholton & The Wheelies, Rhubarb & Custard, Magic Roundabout, The Clangers, Rentaghost.

Modern children's programme favourite is Angelina Ballerina, (the old cartoon one not the new trendy CGI one which I'm not keen on).
