Dublin; 4 yrs in Perth and now moving to UK

Its been a long time since I posted here, and to be honest, I never thought I'd be in this section, but here I am, and we made the decision that Australia just isnt for us.

I'm lucky in that the Mrs and I both agree, and looking at my 3 beautiful kids who have been inflicted with my Genes, I just know they will never be Aussies either. They just are not into it. I know some of you will know what I mean.

Anyway, I am very lucky that I have great job here and they have a offshoot in Derby. My boss thinks the world of me, (not sure why, probably because most Aussies cant really work!!) so hes will be happy to have me there than not at all.

So, its planning time, and one area I cant figure out is if we should leave the proceeds of our house sale here or bring it (circa 350k)
Its such a mine field and I dont know where to start. Interest rates are so much better here and tax rates seem much bigger in the UK?? Any advice would be great.

I guess whether or not you bring your cash home is a question of whether you need it or not. Do you own a property in the UK already? Are you looking to buy or rent in the UK?

I'd leave as much as possible in a high interest account in Australia - but obviously take what I needed (set-up costs, maybe a deposit?).

I suppose as no one can predict the ebb and flow of the exchange rate that there are inherent risks with leaving it in Aus or taking it to the UK - you could 'win' or 'lose' on the exchange rate either way.

Best of luck with your move.
