Also, print a couple of copies, in case your vet screws up so you have an spare blank form. My vet was useless, had some sort of numeracy issue, so I wrote all of the numeric information (dates - MUST be written in UK order of date/month/year, not the US order of month/date/year - and chip number, etc.)
That's a great idea. I will definitely do that. Thanks for your help with this.

Re. the third page, I'm thinking my .pdf file isn't working correctly, as my third page actually includes the vet signature page in addition to the information. Do you know anyway to get it down to the two pages so i can have the form actually on two pages?

Post Re: Dog's PETS Stuff

Hi, this is a little unrelated, but i thought i'd just see if anyone can help....
Im cntemplating the move to oz and the biggest consideration for me is my dogs, initially i thought about going 'gung ho' and just setting off and taking them with me, however my sensible side thinks that it may be better ( both for the dogs, and financially) to board the dogs in the uk for 3 months while i find my feet and see that aus is where i want to be?
The thought of putting them thru the trauma of traveling and quarantine for me to decide that its not what i want seems a bit harsh, and fom what i can see it would not only be traumatic but very expensive.
So im just wondering
1) if anyone who has made the trip thinks that this is a sensible or stupid idea lol
2) if i kennel the dogs in the uk for 3 months, and then decide that aus is the place for me and want to bring the dogs over, will there be a problem with them coming to aus directly from a boarding kennels?
it does say on the AQIS website that they wont accept dogs from quarantine, but is just straightforward boarding kennels different?
Hope this makes sense
Thanks
Fee xx

Here you go - see pages 5 and 6.

[dang it, I can't figure out how to attach a file - any clues? I tried clicking on the button marked "Manage attachments", but nothing happened]

Or if you send me a PM with your email address I'll send you the pdf of the 2-page cert.

Later edit: Here's a thread with what you need:

This is great, thanks. It is virtually the same form I downloaded from DEFRA but in the two pages (well, with the info on the third page). I'll print it double-sided.

Thanks so much for this. I'm a little nervous about putting even a step wrong -- it would be just my luck to get someone at customs on a bad day!

Excellent!!! It has a copy of the certificate in two-page format! I'm assuming it is as acceptable as the newer one on DEFRA's site and either version can be used? The only difference I noticed was the date on the form. Both March 2004, but different days. I'll check more thoroughly another time.

Thanks Dunroving!!!

I wonder if it would hurt to fill both out, just in case, or whether USDA would charge us for both? Do you think I'm being overly paranoid (who, me???)?

Yah, I'm assuming they would charge for each endorsement, as we all know how difficult it is to sign your name on stuff. Wouldn't want to put them through any major trauma for free now, would we? Hehehehe!! Sorry, I'm being a cantankerous cow, and I moan every time I see an outrageous fee for something so easy.

Funnily enough, even the woman on the DEFRA helpline couldn't figure out why the USDA endorsement is so much money (said we were in the wrong line of work!).

Thanks Dunroving!!!
Well, I printed it onto one page, and the wording is EXACTLY the same as the one on the DEFRA website, with the exception of some wording at the top of the first page. The regulation number and purpose of the form is the same, though.

OK...........I got my stuff out.

Our Defra Cert was 3 pages. No problems.

I also have a 6 page(carbons) US Interstate & International Certificate of Health Information for Small Animals. (This is needed anytime you fly a pet in the States).

Both of the above forms were signed by my Vet in the States and the USDA Vet. ...I think the USII Cert of Health didn't need to be endorsed by the USDA Vet but since there was a place for their signature and I was at the USDA Vet in person I made them sign it as well. I know BA World Cargo told me that the USDA Vet needed to sign it but as I recall the USDA Vet told me that BAWorld Cargo was wrong. CHECK WITH THE USDA on this.

Then I have THE OFFICAL FORM (it really says that)...Request for FAVN-OIE Rabies Antibody.

I also have Scout's certificate of Vacination from her Vet.

Also LAST BUT NOT LEAST, I have a charge slip paid to British Air World Cargo (This included fees at Gatwick) for one 36 kg blind, diebetic dog............$ 1717.80.

I know this is totally stressing ya'll out.......I absolutely hated this part of the move.

These airlines that are quoting you fees in GBP on arrival. Folks that is an airline fee, not a UK Defra or Customs fee.

Well, isn't that a bummer??? I thought it was a kenneling fee. They told me it was for handling, etc., at the Animal Recovery Center (or something). I never realized it was an airline fee. Rip off.

You're right about the process. Taking the animals back is the hardest part of all this. Everything else seems really easy (and really right -- I know I'm making the right decision here), but the whole Pet Scheme thing is giving me serious heebie jeebies.

Thanks for getting out all your stuff. Sometimes I think I'm making work for myself, so it's great to get feedback from someone who's gone through the process successfully. I did speak tot he USDA here in Richmond yesterday, and they were very helpful. They definitely clarified things but also made me realize how close I had come to messing this up. Since I've read allt he DEFRA stuff over and over and over again, that made me more nervous than ever.

The USDA Vet in Atlanta was the ONLY one that had a clue about it all. She was great.........plus she called our Atlanta Vet after we flew out and threatened to yank his USDA accreditation because he was such a complete idiot about everything and almost totally screwed us right when we were flying out. This Vet trained for a year in Liverpool mind you and had kept yammering on about how he knew how to do everything and HE HAD NO CLUE.

That's so scary. My vet has been lovely and is quite willing to admit she's clueless about the process. In a way it's a good thing, as she's making an effort to read everything, but it is making me check, check and check again. The people in the vet clinic had to help someone with sending a dog to Australia last year, and they said that was a nightmare -- even had to send someone from the clinic up to Dulles (two hours away) at the last minute as they'd forgotten something that the couple needed!!!!! Apparently England is easier, which makes me think moving to Australia would definitely be out of the question (as if reading this forum hadn't made me figure that out already).

Anyway, I am really glad I made contact with someone at the USDA -- and even more grateful that the office is local. They do seem to know their stuff.

On another note, how long did you live in Atlanta? Are you happy that you made the move back? I'm counting the days but still a tiny bit nervous.
