That show does my head in. I am sure they line them up and specifically tell them to come on looking like they were dragged through a hedge backwards.

You should find the chain in lots of DIY stores its on big rolls as i did try my self with just coins inside and it does not have the same impact.

All of this chains in bottles, coins, stones, rice, the list goes on can work well for simple things. But it's where the training ends. Alot of people will shake/drop the bottle and if nothing happens hit the dog. You need to know when to do it and also what type of dog you have, submissive/dominant/aggressive (and i firmly believe if you socialise your dog as a pup and do it right then you will have less of these problems not a lack of them, so there is always work to be done)
You don't want to have your dog peeing nervously when you drop your keys do you? all over the hall, carpets etc. If you have a serious problem with your dog that you can't fix ask online first then hire a behaviourist.
One product for new home arrivals i swear by for dog is DAP (dog appeasing pheremone) or for cat is simply CAP can make the settling in period easier.
P.s Have you ever thought about how excited she may be? take her out on a long walk, it might just be as simple as she is bored and needs to have some energy run off. Unlike kids they can't just run to their xbox!

Have to agree it depends on the dog. For many dogs, training is largely to do with asserting dominance over the dog (not the same as hitting it with a stick), but Suzy (beaten and neglected as a puppy) would become catatonic if I just raised my voice at her. The coins/stones in a can trick definitely wouldn't have worked with her, though I know it does with a lot of dogs. But as you said, you have to incorprate it into a systematic, consistent program of training.

She is not a puppy either but 6yrs old. She attended puppy and obedience class for 6mths and is extremely well trained. I have continued with this over the years. She is normally that well behaved that when we were in Sydney she was invited into the local preschool nursery (kindy) on a regular basis to meet the children.
I very much doubt boredom is the issue as she has never had so much attention and excitement in her life..lol She revels in her noew found "pack" inclusing the grandchildren. On top of her 2 walks a day, she spends a lot of time playing with the kids, and my daughters new kitten.
I might try the pheremone stuff, but i am worried about how these things might affect her. I am not saying this because she is my dog, but she truly is the most soppy and well loved dog. I dont want to spoil that. I had a friend come ot stay once who was a real dog hater. Within 48hrs she had won her over and had the woman asking to take her out for a walk!!

Yes, they are a right shifty pair. GD has a strange obsession with trying to shove her finger up the dogs nose, but as my daughter said " just be lucky she hasnt got a fetish for sticking her finger in the other end"
