Default Dickensian Christmas trip to UK part 2 without trolls

Lets see how long part 2 lasts

3 days to go. A relative who offered us a weeks accom, has pulled out well making excuses, we sorta expected it, so had back up plans. Sort a zipps me off we gave them 2 free weeks with us last year

Rellies do that sort of thing. They think because they're related, they're entitled to bugger plans up and get away with it. Good job you had back up plans.

Right weve finally got singapore airlines to sit us together, phew well thats for the first flight, the 14 hours ones not open yet, I can panic about that now.

Someone asked me what does it matter, I trust they have never sat in seat E with 2 unshowered sumo sized passengers on either side

Next week has some cool days with 2 degree nights, one teen reckons he doesnt need coat, hes 15 - image is everything even in frost

Makes me think the trolls are secretly envious

Yes the weather has turned, but it is winter and hopefully we might have snow for Xmas My kids still go out with no coats...brrrrrr... but they never feel the cold.

Rock on 3 days

we had that problem 'ohh you should try and get over at Christmas, we'd love to have you to see the kids with their presents' So we found cheap flights on Boxing Day till New Years Eve. when we told them it was .. 'ohh well we've got this happening and this happening and we've got a couple of parties organised' well we did manage to find somewhere to say and did see them for a couple of days.. but.. they must have had 10 free holidays out of us in the 4 years we were in Spain.

I loved hereandthere's comments on the previous thread about how winter and cold dark nights adds nothing to Christmas.

What crap!

The whole point of Christmas - the only point of it for the non-Christian - is that it is a festival to lift one's spirits in mid-winter and in fact make a virtue of the cold and dark. E.g. staying inside, eating nice food, drinking mulled wine and giving each other gifts. Christmas serves much less of a purpose in the Southern Hemisphere. So many of the traditions of Christmas are custom built for winter and the weather that goes with that. Christmas in summer is like swimming whilst eating a sandwich.

I should think all those who have celebrated Christmas south of the equator all their lives will be very surprised to read this

Those of my friends who have lived in Australia all their lives would certainly disagree with both of your above statements.
