Palomino is an unknown quantity at this point
Default credit history

We are a retired couple from Canada (1 is British, 1 Cdn) looking to return to live out the rest of our lives in the UK.
We have Cdn pensions here and some money in our Bank accounts enough to be self sufficient.
I have a few questions that might help us out, if anyone can share their experience and how to go about things before we leave Canada.
Credit History: We have great credit history here, but how do we get that transferred to UK?
Bank Accts: We opened an HSBC Premier account both in Canada and the UK, just waiting on our debit cards to arrive. Would it be advantageous to ask them for a Credit Card?
Utility Payments: How do we pay for these? Do we just do Direct debit through our UK Bank account?
Credit Cards: Can we use our World Elite Master Cards for payment of things like cars, rent, utilities, phones etc.
any thoughts/help would be much appreciated.

I don’t know if you can transfer your credit history from Canada. We could not do this from the USA.

I would ask for an HSBC UK credit card but doubtful if they will give you one, you may have to use your UK debit card until you can get a UK credit card.

when we moved back we rented a house first and paid by direct debit, the same goes for utilities and council tax.

We hired a car for the first couple of weeks while looking for a 2nd hand car, which we bought using our UK debit card having first transferred money from our US HSBC bank to our UK HSBC bank using Wise.

We also used our US credit card for some stuff until we got our HSBC credit card.

We have both Canada and UK Premier accounts for around 15 years and have found HSBC to be be a fraud. They refused us a UK credit card despite having very substantial funds in our accounts and confirming they will transfer our Canadian credit history. Premier accounts have no in-bank access and everything is by phone. The people on the end of the phone have no idea what they are talking about. I was told to call back in 6 months to re-apply for a credit card. Check out he reviews for HSBC and you won’t find any reviews above 1 out of 5. The bank has gone downhill so fast.
