Credit card after moving back
Hi
I've been back in the UK for 6 months after living in the states for almost 7 years. I'm trying to get a credit card but all the online applications ask for 3 years of addresses (which I assume mean UK addresses), which I don't have.
I was wondering what other peoples experiences were? For example are there any companies which accept foreign addresses or don't require 3 years of addresses?
Thanks in advance
Tom

Have you approached your bank about getting a credit card through them?
I applied for a BA Amex card shortly after returning from Europe where I spent several years. I don't recall having another problems regarding my time abroad but then I maintained a UK current account for the entire period.

Did you have an Amex card in the US? If so you can apply to transfer it to a UK Amex card. They use your credit history with them in the US so doesn't matter that you have no credit in the UK.

Is there such a thing as a secured credit card in the UK? That's what we did with our bank when we arrived in Canada. We had to leave x amount in a savings account, which they then released and put us on regular terms after a certain period of time. The amount in the account was the same as the limit on the card.

When we applied we only had a UK address for around 6 months I think, my wife gave her old address she had lived in about 20 years earlier and it was accepted.

I asked this question on a similar thread
Has anyone any experience with other cards that can be transferred in then changed over to a UK one, for example, an HSBC Mastercard?

I tried to do this but for me it does not work. I live at the same address as I did before my time abroad. So when filling in the application current address is same as previous address which is flagged as an error.

Yes. Several years ago, I opened an HSBC account in Canada and the Canadian branch gave my Cdn credit rating details etc to HSBC UK. Cdn branch issued the Cdn credit and debit cards and the UK office issued the UK cards.
