Re: Could a Asian Obama be PM in the UK?
Quiz question: who is described in the following passage?
People are still amazed he won. In a country where more than a few white folks would still say outright that one of "them'' shouldn't be in charge, here was a politician who didn't downplay his ethnicity, his foreign-sounding name, or his father who wasn't even a Christian. And he wasn't just ethnically atypical. He'd made himself a member of the country's meritocratic elite. He wrote real books that really sold. That blend of outsider detachment and obvious ambition drove his earnest enemies crazy. So they attacked him as doubly strange, both "not like us'' and elite. They claimed you could not trust this man, that he was unknowable, unreliable, a snob, and a toff. They ridiculed the seal he'd contrived for himself, with its Latin motto meaning, roughly, "yes, we can.''

Being that Asians are the largest minority group in the UK ,I wonder if what took place in America's recent election is possible in the UK?Would the brits feel comfortable enough with a Asian or Muslim person to elect him PM? Do Brits feel that Asians and Muslims in the UK have intergrated enough were they are viewed as true loyal British citizens?
Culturally most Americans are pretty much intergrated and enjoy much of the same traditions, cultural taste, even popular cultural taste and religious beliefs if not the same religions. Are Brits at that point were they feel that most British Asians and Muslims would honor British traditions over any other tradition that may be culturally apart of their grandparents or great grandparents traditions?
Or is the UK 30-50 years away from such a milestone of electing a Asian PM?Do white brits believe that the black british community is more intergrated into british society than the asian or muslim british communities?

Ummm... linky.
Would you be concerned about a Catholic Prime Minister?
Then there is a 'chicken and egg problem': without black leaders you will not see a black PM, and a black person must lead in order to become PM.
