i haven't bad-mouthed the uk. i've expressed a personal opinion. i am british, i love the uk. i don't like what it is becoming and neither do many british people. geordie, look at the thread, i merely answered your questions.
i didn't intend to join, i was sending a few links of expat sites to a former colleague considering an overseas transfer. so they could see some opinion. i saw this site, and, yes the content of this thread fascinated me. so i joined, to add a reply. there is no casual visitor posting.
no mandtooz, i don't think you're stupid. i don't recall at any stage expressing that opinion either.
i would say however to all the bored housewives in this room wasting your lives tapping out your misery, staring longingly at the shipping containers, take a step back, and a long hard look at your 'problems' and put them in some sort of perspective. going back to the uk is one thing, making it your core daily activity to talk about it and have a virtual miserablefest is vomit-inducing. as someone said earlier (but no one complained that she flamed!) just !@#$ off home, then. we won't miss your whining.

Someone once described Perth to me as "Having no Soul" and the longer I'm here, I have to agree.

Do you qualify for the two year citizenship, or will it be longer?
The 'No Soul' bit is so accurate. If you take away the big house, the beaches and the weather....what's left underneath it all? Nothing in my opinion. It is a bland, dull place lacking in diversity and character.

Now you take a step back and think before you post.

You are either stupid, plain arrogant, truly ignorant, haven't been in Oz very long or all or some of these. For a start, some of the posters, including myself, are not bored 'housewives'. I know for a fact that one of them is studying full time for a degree, one runs their own business and afew work full and part time. To think that you can offer 'words of advice' when you know nothing about anyone on here is to say the least, very patronising.
Now you take a step back and think before you post.

I think most people assume that because you dislike living here, you must be a social misfit, academically challenged, possess limited life skills, be utterly ignorant and devoid of any logical thought patterns! I would argue we are the complete anti-thesis of those traits, and that we require a little more mental stimulation than the big houses, the beach and never ending round of barbi's to float our boats, wouldn't you?!!

The way I look at it is, in the rain it looks as dull as anywhere else!
Oh and definitely no soul either!
Perth city is lovely but thats about it for me.
Not sure if I will be able to hold out much longer either, keep beating myself up about it too wondering why the hell I can't settle here in the end it comes down to where I feel comfortable and here, in this country I have NEVER felt comfortable. Almost like a fish out of water is the best description I can put to it. I only came back here because of hubbies job thinking I could handle being where he is but love isn't everything.
Plus the longer I am here the worse my depression is getting so I am seriously considering going back on my own for a while, hubby would love to come to but he wants a job there which I can understand fully plus he has this CISCO Course he is trying to finish. We were hoping to be back before September but doesn't look like it now.
I so want to jump in the next persons suitcase going to Heathrow or even Birmingham Airport would do right now!!
Tracey: I so agree with you, our brains need more than this!
