Considering relocating back to the UK from the US... lack of IT JOBS!
I've been living in the US for just over a year now and have not had much success as far as IT JOBS go. It seems like you need to have a degree for every one of them. I never even see any entry-level jobs around. Maybe it's the area I live in, but I'm in the same area as the BIG 3 in the Motor City.
I have been looking at jobs in the UK and they seem plentiful in the city of London alone they have 300+ IT jobs just in the city... Plus you don't even need a degree or 5+ years experience just to get an interview!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just one example below from www.theitjobboard.com:
Large scale organization is urgently seeking a 2nd Line Support engineer to join their growing team that supports 5000+ users. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 months 2nd line support in a large organization. This is an immediate appointment so interviews are being arranged quickly. Certifications would be advantageous.
Location City of London
Salary £25000 + BENS if u want the amount in Dollars go to www.xe.com
Type Permanent
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I never see jobs like this posted since I have been in the US… Plus you have to find a job with GOOD healthcare which makes it even harder, plus the risk of getting laid off because of down sizing. Anyway is there anyone on this forum that could give me a real idea of what the job market is like back in the UK (London Area), as I don’t wanna just rely on one job site.
D-boy
Ps: i wouldn't recommend anyone to move to the USA without have a degree in something!

Hi there,
My brother lives in Pittsburgh (which is where I am now), and he has the same probs. He's been out of work for a year now as a Hardware engineer. I.T Here seems so specific that you need to train in about a half dozen areas to get a look in. Specialising in one field does not seem to be enough for them. Luckily his partner is working, so he can hold out for now. I keep hoping something will turn up for him, but I understand anyone that heads back to the UK as there's definitely a more concentrated IT market over there.
Good luck whatever you do,
Rich.

Isn't motor city the US equivalent of Birmingham in the UK. Why not try New York where the finance happens and all the IT jobs that accompany the industry. Motor city and London are not equivalent cities.

Do you like it in the States?
Thanks! Yeah that is very true... even if you have all they require they work you like a dog and don't even pay good money. I work for Quest Diagnostics through Kelly Services and I'm only getting $10hr hardly enough to make a living here. A least I have a job I guess until i head back to the UK... I have to save twice the amount of money for me to be able to have a good start back home because of the exchange rate! Well I don't regret getting married to a my US wife, I guess it's the price you pay to be with the one you love.

I don't think it will matter much what state I go to, although they do have more jobs down in the south like Florida.
