So today I'm going to see him preform in the school Christmas play, they didn't do this in his school in Toronto. Lars is going to be a shepherd, he even has a line to say:wub: A few weeks ago when he came home to tell me this I asked him "so who's playing Mary and Joseph?" he looked at me in surprise and said "how did you know there's a Mary and Joseph?"

Bless his little cotton socks.

Oh gosh, you described how I feel here in Canada.
And the telly! Well, its nowhere near half as good as back home especially at Christmas, they often put on Christmas specials weeks before the actual day and if I am quick and get my act together I try to record them so that we have something Chrismassy to watch. You have got me all nostalgic....remember Christmas morning telly back home where a celebraty (cant for the life of me remember who) used to go around Childrens hospital wards (I know its ancient but someone may remember) and used to get me all teary eyed watching the sick kids opening their gifts. And for those old enough to remember....Morcambe and Wise Christmas specials....Christmas wasnt Christmas without them! And of course....The Queens Speech.
Aaah, them were the days
Merry Christmas

Oh wow, I remember that, where the bloke went around the hospitals. Wasn't it Leslie Crowther? I used to love that. And Top of The Pops in the afternoon, and everything else you mentioned.
I remember getting Jackie annuals and nicking my brothers Beano because he never used to read it anyway, only look at the cartoons.
I miss Christmas pud and custard, paperchains, crackers and silly hats. Christmas in America just isn't the same.

Can't you even get Christmas pudding in America?

I wouldn't have anything other than brandy sauce on mine, never mind custard!

I had problems finding Christmas pud and mince pies in Canada......you have to remember that Thanksgiving is a bigger celebration than Christmas in North America, and whilst they do go all out, it's still of lesser importance to the nation as a whole. In fact my Canadian friends couldn't quite grasp the fact that we Brits don't celebrate Thanksgiving!

I know what you mean Canadians seemed genuinely surprised when I'd tell them we don't have Thanksgiving in the UK:blink: I used to explain it by saying we're all too miserable to giving thanks for anything, of course they probably thought I was serious:eek:

True enough, but I don't find any shortage of Christmas pud and mincemeat here. I've not found one I like, though. Only had a Christmas pud at a friend's house, but it was too sweet and cakey. I make my own. I make my own mincemeat, too, because the stuff here is runny, sweet, and heavy with cinnamon. Plus, in recipes for Christmas cake, they say to make it ahead of time and then freeze it!!!!!!! They can't get their heads around putting in in a cool place and blessing it with brandy on a regular basis.

Shame, isn't it?

But then, they keep jam in the fridge. The strange thing is that it sometimes needs it or it goes mouldy. Too little sugar, I suppose.
