Cheapest removals USA-UK?

Helloooo!!
I moved here to CA four years ago from the UK and the time has come for me to return home.
I have a lot less to take back than what I came with in regards to possessions, but I'm shocked at how much I've been quoted for shipping my stuff back to England.
Has anyone got any recommendations for reasonable companies etc? I'd be extremely grateful :)

We moved back in June from Florida and used U Pak We Ship. As you do your own packing the cost is a lot less than conventional companies. They offer quite a few options for sizes of crates/containers to move things. We chose a 20ft shipping container, packed and unloaded it ourselves, were able to fully insure it against loss and damage. This worked very well for us and cost just over $5k.

Hi,

Might be worth getting quotes from both UK and US based companies to see if the prices vary... they sometimes do. We wrote this post on the topic, hope it helps?

In terms of companies, check the fidi website for FAIM certified companies to ensure you're dealing with a reputable, experienced company or check out this guide http://britishexpats.com/forum/overs...ompany-851592/

We used Rainier, they were great, moved us back from Florida to Bristol for about $5k for a private use 20ft container and that included them wrapping, packing and unpacking this end. I dealt with a guy called David over the phone who was very helpful. Good luck!

I'm heading back to Belfast on 22nd September with a 20' container. My quote is $7100. Going to Ireland takes longer because the container is off loaded in Southampton and has to wait for a ship heading to Northern Ireland. They quoted 60-90 days.
