If the owner of the car has fully comp. insurance you are covered for a test drive. For driving test we already have our licenses.

I visited the UK in 05/06 for 8 months and bought a 2 year old Ford KA, ran it for the whole time and sold it for 300 pounds less than I paid for it, and yes the insurance was way cheaper than what we pay here in Canada.

But if you look at the actual policy wording 'Any Driver' means regular use by any driver, 'Named Drivers' means regular use by those named and occasional use by people not named. There are also policies naming regular drivers and specifically excluding other named persons (e.g. parents and children in a household have licenses, the parents are the named drivers on the Ferrari and the Escort, the children are excluded on the Ferrari. This covers occasional use of the Escort by the children even though they're not named). Unless there has been a recent and drastic change in underwriting practise either policy covers someone taking a test drive.
