Buying a car
When we arrive in London in February as newcomers to the country, will we be able to buy a car? We will not immediately have an address as this will only be sorted once we arrive in Nottingham a few days later. We planned to stay in a holiday cottage initially until we secure furnished accomodation.

I would say it's possible to buy used, but they will need an address to transfer the registration - do you have a relatives address you could use?

Hi
My wife has an Aunt in Ealing so that probably would suit. Thanks for the tip.
Was thinking a used car.
Would used cars be cheaper in London because of turnover? This is the case in Sydney.

You could try looking at Auto-trader for prices and see how they compare

Yes as long as you have an address you can use for the DVLA buying a car is a doddle. If you are used to Sydney or Australia generally you will be amazed what you can get for your money.

Re: Buying a car
Buying the car won't be a problem.
Getting insured for it might be a bigger issue. (Insurance is a legal requirement in the UK, but as you haven't been resident, it can be expensive. Remember to bring your old insurance forms with you, especially if the company you were with is linked to an insurance company that operates in the UK).
