this is not strictly a question about visas but i hope you'll bear with me :)
i'm planning to get a job for a few years in the US under a H1B visa. i have my own house in the UK and i'm going to use a property mgmt agency to rent it out on my behalf. so what is the tax situation regarding this arrangement? i would guess what i earn in my US job is obviously taxed under US laws and the income from letting my home would be a UK income which i presume would be mostly tax free (taking into account the personal allowance of £5K or whatever) any advice appreciated, thanks! bc |
If you are a tax resident of the US (ie spend > 181 days in the US in any one year),
ALL your income is taxed including foreign income. If the income is taxed abroad, there is a tax treaty which avoids double taxation. I believe there is some time lag in claiming back taxes. But Im not a tax accountant, so probably good to talk with one DeDe On Sat, 17 Mar 2001 12:51:57 -0000, "Boneless Chicken" > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > |
