British citizens in Canada want to get married in UK
Hi all,
New to this forum and I would like some help. I’ve tried looking through old threads and government sites, but I cannot find the information I am looking for.
We are a British couple (both UK passport holders) and reside in Toronto, Canada. We have Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada and have lived in Toronto for the past 4 years together. We now want to get married in the UK, next year.
Can we give “Notice of Marriage” in Toronto, without having to go to the UK for this notice?
Do we need to reside in the UK before turning up for the marriage ceremony?
Can we turn up to the British Consulate in Toronto, in person, to get advice?
We really want to get married in the UK, and not simply a blessing after marrying in Toronto.
Thanks, and looking forward to your replies.

The following website provides info:
https://www.gov.uk/marriages-civil-p...ps/give-notice
- you have to give notice of marriage at the Registry or church where you intend to get married - can't see this being done over the phone etc.....
- yes you need to reside in the district where you intend to get married
Don't know whether you can turn up at the British consulate, why not call them and find out?

If you live in Canada then you can give notice in Newfoundland; otherwise you’ll need to come to the UK to do it.

Yes, we saw that we could do this in Newfoundland and it’s one of the reasons we posted here as we thought surely then there must be a way to do it in Toronto! Only Newfoundland sounds very odd!
