Back after 7 years!
Hi everyone,
I've been back a week now and I'm sure it was the right decision for myself and my family. The weather, food and people have all been great. I'm not sure what I should be doing right now. Some info: British born with a Chinese wife and 18month daughter. What do I need to be signing up for/registering? I have a UK bank account and SIM card from before. We're staying with my parents. We have signed our daughter up with a local GP but other than that we haven't done anything yet. Is there a checklist available for what I should be doing? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Back after 7 years!
Hi Hangzhouguy, I just wanted to say welcome back. I hope your wife and daughter enjoy the UK. The only thing I can think of is you may, dependent on income, be able to claim child benefit for your daughter. Take it, if you can, everybody does!
Otherwise, maybe someone will be along soon who knows more. Anyway, welcome back! |

HangzhouGuy,
So glad to hear that you are feeling good about your decision to return home. I haven't got anything helpful to suggest by way of a check list of things to get done but hopefully some of the BTDT crew will be along soon to post suggestions. Congrats on the move! |

Not sure why you chose to bump this thread, but bumping is not allowed (site rule #13)

1) Trying to be helpful to a returnee.
2) Yes it is, now! I only left in April and forgot that they were going to reduce CB for higher rate tax payers - that's terrible really as I would have been affected - thanks for correcting me  |

Thank you for the kind words guys. At the moment I'm unemployed so am I right in assuming I can qualify for child support?

https://www.gov.uk/jobseekers-allowance/overview
You should sign up for job seekers allowance while you are looking for work. You won't get anything instantly, it takes a while to come through. It may be dependent on having contributed to the system, but it's worth a try. Now I think of it, my son got it and he hadn't contributed anything! |
