back 2 weeks already
I can't believe where the time is going. They say that time flies when you are having fun, it is so true. Time seemed to stand so still in OZ I felt that I had retired.
All our goods arrived yesterday and suddenly the holiday seems over... do I care NO! The kids school was closed due to snow and we played for hours in it. The scenic views over the fields were to die for. The best thing was having a warm house to defrost in after. Yesterday was also hubbies birthday and we managed to hit the pubs for the first time in years. Sipping German beer and playing pool whilst listening to Therapy being blasted out made the whole trip worth while. Today Mr Dev has to make a decision over jobs. He has 3 fantastic offers and the choice is his. I have also found a few jobs that will fit in well with the kids so fingers crossed! My daughter has just passed an audition for a Sat dance college and hopefully the other kids activities will get sorted soon. The kids are busy with play dates and the Mums are very friendly with a sense of humour that soon has you  I know that some people have made this move back and regretted it. All I can say is well done for giving it a go. For the rest of you that are wanting to come back. Take your time, it will happen, just make sure that you enjoy the time that you have left. It soon seems a distant memory. |

So you aren't going to be a ping-ponger then? No pangs at all???? My sister has just found a regular babysitter so we can hit the town once a week! The choice in drinking venues is amazing. You can go wine, sport, nightclub or dodgy... I am looking forward to trying all. Only regret at the moment is why I waited so long. How's things in Melbourne... is it very hot? are you still working? |

I've just spoken to Mum and she's got heaps of snow in Herefordshire. You've done so much in your short while back and everything seems to be slotting into place just nicely. that's great. Just to say, it's been 35 over here today in Perth and bloody horrible! I wanted to go walking but couldn't face thr thought of getting heat stroke! You enjoy the pubs, snow, central heating, choice in the shops and everything that's British!!:D |

There is no worse feeling than that of being trapped. I felt like it for over 3 years and now it feels like such a weight lifted from me. Try not to let it get you down and keep yourself busy. I think that the mistake I made was telling people a year prior that I was heading back as suddenly you isolate yourself. Can you book yourself a holiday so that you have something positive to look forward to? |

The thing that I have found hardest is trying to tell my body that I don't need to be in bed by 10pm... the night is still young here at that time. I know what you mean by being skint... I have never had such little money as I did in OZ. The jobs that hubby is getting offered means that we can start living again. I am finding the food so cheap and the choice of clothing at such affordable prices. The kids have now a smart looking uniform (with ties) Clarks shoes and huge smiles. Schools here are so much more fun they tell me! Could you not plan a trip to somewhere either in OZ or close to. I think that virgin do some good deals now.. It would really help you cope with the 18 months that you have left. |

Re: back 2 weeks already
Hi there, we've been back for nearly 2 months after living in Perth for 5 years. I am loving it and feel a sense of contentment and feel like I am home. I am loving the cold weather too. My 2 little kids are really settled and love being near their cousins, grandparents. The town we live in is great, has a sense of community and people are friendly.Loads for the kids to do with drop in toddler groups every day in a different venue, riverside walks, little cafes and countryside. We've been out every day mostly walking everywhere. In Perth I used to feel so housebound with 2 little ones as I couldn't stand the heat, the glare and the flies. Going walking was a major effort. Here I'm out all the time. Aussie husband is enjoying it too, it took him a while to get work but just landed a good contract. I don't really think about Perth at all, just little things like not being able to hang washing out!! and today a Wiggles clip came on TV and I felt abit nostalgic!!!!The house we are in here is nowhere near as nice as the Aussie one yet I am so much more happier here. Good luck for everyone returning- I reckon there are still some great parts of the UK. So much more to do here and I think the climate is better too!

Hi all, I love reading your posts - afraid I'm not an Expat but hope to become an Aussie expat soon! Born and bred Aussie girl and sick, sick, sick of the heat.
The other post from someone living here in Perth was spot on - prisoner in your home because of the heat. So where is a good place to plan to go? My husband is an Electrician and I am an accounts clerk, we have 2 girls we hope to not have abducted  and really don't mind selling our 4 x 2 with pool here in Perth and getting a cosy 2 bed flat just to get a life and start travelling, even going away for a weekend from Perth is a 3 hour drive to get somewhere a bit different. Imagine 3 hours from London and you could be in France! |

Re: back 2 weeks already
Hi there Woody, we are in Woodbridge in Suffolk. We are just starting to look to buy, we are in a rental at the moment. My husband only started his job this week and our Oz house sale just went through so we have just only started to look. There doesn't seem to be much around and a nice house in Woodbridge looks like it may well be a minimum of £250,000. The surrounding villages and towns are quite abit cheaper but Woodbridge is definately the nicest town. I love being able to walk everywhere at the moment by living quite central in this small market town. I hope we will be able to buy here. Where are you Woody?

More tucked away? Devon, Cornwall. If you want to travel, then somewhare near a low cost airline airport. Are you only thinking UK? Otherwise Europe is your oyster. I would think about Rome, Tuscany (esp Sienna), Northern Italy, Barcellona, Geneva, Zurich, Copenhagen, Oslo, South of France... So many places... By the Lonely Planet guide to whichever country you are considering. |

It must be hard for you to read us generalising and knocking Perth and it's inhabitants. Oh heck...she knows where we'll be on Friday  Erm, you're welcome to join us, as long as you come in peace! The UK is your oyster. You need to sort out how much money you'll have to play with, that's the main thing. That will dictate where you live. You also need to find out whether your hubby's electrical licence will be valid over there or if he'll have to get re-trained or whatever. |

Okay, to lose some money is a pain in the butt, whereas peace of mind is priceless. I've done it; walked away from something (that was making me very unhappy) completely penniless and I forfeited a heck of a lot of money. But my God, the weight that was lifted from my shoulders, and that peaceful feeling in my heart was so worth taking that financial hit. |

By taking other auctions in the area into consideration, my best guess is a 400k loss!! That buys a lot of mogodons and I will have to stay if it comes to that kind of figure.
