Good Afternoon :).

Newbie to the board here, well this is my 3rd post so technically I broke my cherry.

I was referred here by an online acquaintance on another community, I know her as BritinNJ so if you read this Chris, here I am, this is Lynne from 3FC :).

I'm 32 yrs old, moved to Tennessee 5 years ago after marrying my husband who I met online. We live just outside of Petersburg, a teeny tiny town in rural South Tennessee, we've got 13 acres of land and I grow my own vegetables and we keep chickens! I work as an administrator for a large Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Huntsville, Alabama. We don't have kids, we have fur kids in the form of 1 dog, 1 cat, 4 goats and countless chickens.

This place looks ace, lots of info and busy traffic by the looks of things. I'm looking forward to visiting more in the future.

Actually your life sounds good if it wasn't for the fact you are a townie, so poor you :( but I'm sure there are a lot of people that would be jealous having chickens etc. It sounds nice to me but I've learned I am a townie too ;)

and have your own goats huh...the missus will be envious...trying to get some fleece to spin and it's a mare to get hold of around here, weirdly enough :lol:

Isn't it funny? I was thinking about this on my lunch hour, if I could only transplant our property to a suburb just outside Leeds I would be alright :rofl:.

And what kind of chickens? I have 30, a mix of Black Austalorps and Silver laced Wyandottes, with one Brown Leghorn thrown in. All hens, I've found roosters to be a PITA.

We currently have about 20, rhode island reds, jersey giants, a couple leghorns and some cochin/leghorn mixes. In the past we've had cochins, arakuna's (atrocious spelling I know, I apologise) and silkies. We've only got 1 rooster right now which is good for the hens, unfortunately there's a nesting hawk pair in our woods that's discovered what a buffet our property is :mad:.

The best rooster we ever had was a bright orange silky who was mad vicious. He would run across the yard to attack me, this tiny ball of orange fluff would just launch himself at my legs. I couldn't do anything but laugh.

I have discovered a fondness for chickens after raising them for a couple years, I used to dislike them with their beady eyes and sharp beaks but they're funny creatures once you work with them.

Hi, Leeds lass. I lived in Headingly for three years before coming to the US. Originally from Pocklington, near York. The more Northerners on here, the better. Welcome.

Our last rooster went to freezer camp after I watched him chase my 6yo daughter across the yard. (it's her chore to gather eggs) Would have been funny if she wasn't terrified and crying. Of course he was a very large leghorn and could have done some damage.

As we were eating the chicken soup he ended up in, my daughter said, looking into her bowl, "You're not so tough now, are you!" My 8yo son replied, "Yes, he is." with a dour look. :rofl:
