Consistently voted the best place in the world to live, Australia is renowned for its stunning scenery and friendly people.

Thirteen Australian areas are on the World Heritage List, which includes the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru (Ayres Rock).

Australia has a warm sunny climate, which means outdoor dining and a huge variety of sports are part of the Australian way of life.

As the 6th largest country in the world, Australia is 50% larger than Europe, but has the lowest population density in the world. Approximately 85% of Australians occupying only 1% of the continent and live in the capital cities and along the coast.
For at least 40,000 years Australia's Aboriginal people have lived in Australia's unique natural environment, believed to be the world's oldest civilisation.

Good point. Mind you, round here they will invest millions in nabbing someone who makes a slightly inappropriate remark while letting rapists and murderers go free.

Only yesterday a major music star here got a suspended sentence for killing 2 people in a car crash - despite admitting a charge of culpable homicide...

Still not sure I'd swap though!

It's also the worlds oldest, largest, flattest landmass on earth. Orginally known as Gondwana it also has the oldest rainforest.

Good intelligent post Danny.

When I first arrived here, I researched and wrote a book on Australian style and design history. Australia also has around 400 shipwrecks dotted around it's coastlines the most famous being The Mahogany Ship which is resting somewhere off Victoria.

Also, it looks like the Portuguese were actually first to discover Australia, not Britain. That would probably be true given the Spanish reputation for their love of high sea adventure and fleet of sea faring galleons.

Take a tip from me... never call a Portuguese a Spaniard if you want to keep all your teeth. !
