Apply for ETA to travel to UK

Hi,

I have a dual citizenship. My British passport expired. Do I apply for ETA with my Canadian passport or do I need to re-apply for a British Passport to travel to UK?

Thank You.

From what I can tel, the UK has not enforced rules that require you to enter on a British passport if you are British citizen, so you should be ok to enter on your Canadian passport. You'd need it with you anyway as Canada does require a Canadian citizen to enter Canada on a Canadian passport.

- If you enter on your Canadian passport then you need an ETA; the problem is British citizens do not need (nor should be able to get an ETA)
- some Brits on this forum say they HAVE applied for an ETA and have got one.
-others suggest carrying both passports.

Airline would not let you board flight to UK without ETA, unless you show valid UK or IE passport. Simple as that.
You can claim you are British until you get blue in face, but without valid UK/IE passport or ETA, you are not flying to UK.

Common sense will say get new passport if UK one has expired.

You can do either but you'll need to do one or the other to be able to board a flight to the UK.
