I am currently on vacation in Texas and i am suprised to see the duplicate of locations throughout United States that are exactly the same as United Kingdom.

While on vacation everyone asks where i am from due to my accent and it is suprising 80% class United Kingdom as England.
No one ever heard of Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland being part of United Kingdom.

On the subject of dual place names:

I did have a minor panic when changing planes on my way to Manchester, the real Manchester was not listed as a departure, but the faux Manchester in New Hampshire or some such place was listed, I did have, for a few minutes, the horrible feeling that I had messed up my ticket purchase. (The missus was convinced I had messed it up, and no apology when Manchester, UK did pop up on screen)

It makes sense considering who colonized/kicked out the natives across most of this continent.

Back to the original question, though not Welsh, I was at the time living in Cardiff when I decided to emigrate.

We are from Wales (UK) but are also in the Sunshine state, and it's shining today too. Makes a change from all the Fog we've had lately.

So do we have to put (UK) after every place now to avoid confusion?
