2 job offers in devon...
Not long til we return back to good old blighty - 10 days to be exact
Orignally our plans didnt involve returning to work straight away, we wanted to give ourselves a bit of breathing space, time to catch up with all that has happened and do a little exploring and relaxing before rushing around finding work , an area to move too and stressing out even more over the move.
However out of curiosty we applied for some jobs while still being here in canada, didnt think we would here anything back due to the job market at the moment but today, checked the email and recieved two job offers, one in devon, one in exeter! Did not expect it at all, so my question is...
What is that area like? Im from the north - Yorkshire/lincolnshire and not really explored much of the south. I guess the cost of living is higher? What are the people like, lifestyle etc...
Anyone who has lived or is living or is planning to live, any information would be greatly appreciated! Of course we will be going for a visit but like I said we want to have a mini holiday to destress after this journey and relax.
Thanks inadvance!

Hi, what part of Devon? We have a home near Bideford and we also know Exeter quite well.
North and south Devon are both lovely areas but south Devon property is more expensive
Personally, I don't think the cost of living differs too much
Good luck

I don't think the cost of living differs much from anywhere else in Britain, though the cost of housing is probably the biggest factor. However this depends on your location and what sort of home you want.
Devon has beautiful countryside and coastline, very different to Lincolnshire which you mentioned. I was near Lincoln for 6 months last year. South Devon weather is also milder, though perhaps with more rain than some parts of England.
Exeter has a decent shopping centre and is central for touring, but there is another thread about this.

Great! Thanks so much for your replies everyone, sheds a light for sure!
We're not looking to buy so renting will be our option for now but we agree with the cost of housing is more expensive than what we are used too.
I will have to have a search for the thread about exeter! Thansks again!

I live in Devon, 12 miles from Exeter - Dawlish. Great rail and bus links within the county as well as to London and the north. Exeter is an historic and beautiful city, with much to do and all the large stores. No need for a car unless you live on the outskirts or in a rural location - there are many buses to lots of places, but for work schedules it could be problematic. Rentals are higher than up north, but factor in the sunshine, rive, and proximity to the seashore and surrounding countryside and it is worth it. Some areas of the city have poor housing, and some anti social behaviour problems - the local paper could help in house choices:

as well as rental agencies such as:

Good luck and happy Devon living.

We are buying a place near Bideford. How did you find living in the area?

We intend returning to Devon sooner rather than later as we came here for an "adventure" which has ran its natural course so obviously we really like it in Devon! Holler if you need any help x
