$140 debt in Australia but I have moved back to the UK.
Hi all,
I have a $140 debt with a phone company in Aus when I was travelling on a working holiday visa. I was wondering if they will chase me to the UK? I'm not planning on going back to Australia for at least 5-10 years. Any advice is appreciated.

Why not just send them the money?

You should pay this debt, not seek or hope to dodge it.

It's not a nice feeling being broke, hope things improve for you soon and I'm sure they will The advice to give them a call and arrange a payment plan is good. Just be honest with them, even if you can only pay a fiver a month your debt will eventually be cleared. Failing that, once you're on your feet again pay the lot in one go. Having debts hanging over your head isn't pleasant.

Pay it! … If they start adding interest you could end up owing thousands in a few years time!

Pay it! Vodafone in Australia decided I owed them lots of money for a pocket wifi thing (remember them?) when actually I had moved house and asked them to cancel the contract. They sent all the demands to my old house. Even though I had postal redirection I wasn't getting the demands so I didn't find out until they sold the debt to another company who started chasing me for it and sending me nasty text messages. After several phone calls to work out what was going on, luckily Vodafone honoured my complaint and said there had recorded the phone conversation saying I'd moved house and it was the staff member's fault that he didn't find out our new address. But I would have had a bad note on my credit rating if I hadn't sorted it out.
I really don't think it's worth leaving it. As someone else said, you can call them and work out a payment plan.

Pay it off
Your credit history there would get ****ed.
And depending on their laws you could go to jail even. Not worth it.

In the end they may write it off.
But then if you wish to go back and live there, they WILL record it on your credit history.
Why not just contact them now and say that you missed their text (even if it's a white lie) and you want to pay them back at a given time?
it's not worth the hassle, if you want to buy a car, house, etc. and you won't be able to do it because you didn't pay them back.
