Default Young male moving to Riyadh!!

Hi everybody,

I am currently looking into a position of employment which has been offered to me in Riyadh and before I make a decision I am hoping that someone will be able to tell me what life would be like for a single male aged 25 in Riyadh?

The company will be providing accommodation in a compound so this is something I won't have to sort out myself. I realise that alcohol is prohibited in Saudi but "self brews" exist on compounds, that there are no cinemas, nightclubs etc.

I would really appreciate it if people who have any experience of living in Riyadh might fill me in on how they have found it?

What people do to entertain themselves, particularly on weekends? (I am quite a sporty person i.e. swimming, tennis, badminton)

Anything I should ask/request from my employer before going out?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Life in Riyadh is potentially anything but boring, particularly for single males.

Once you have established a group of friends, there are lots of social events going on in compounds, including at the British Embassy.

It's just life outside the compounds which is restrictive and a little 'strange'

Welcome spuddie, lemme guess boredom / good salary * 2 years,, i think its a good deal. 25 years old like me > good enough. ask yourself what you want, then you can decide. sometimes you need to ignore somethings to gain other 'things'.

I'm 23 yr old male moving to Riyadh in the next few weeks (depending on how long the postal service decide to delay my departure by going on strike and stopping my visa arriving!!) Working at KSU, Does anybody else work there ??

look forward to meeting you at some of the compound/embassy socials or at the Rugby Club

All I can remember from being a 24 year old male in Jeddah is lots of nurses and copious amounts of alcohol [invariably both at the same time]...mind you it was 18 years ago so the memory may be playing tricks on me

If you came back now - you'd find nothing has changed on both accounts.

Id consider working in Saudi if I could easily get laid from various women unrelated to me by marriage.
