Are you guys seeing any economic recovery in Dubai?
This guy from Nakheel is painting a very positive picture about the Real Estate situation in Dubai.would like to know from folks who are already in dubai if this is really true.
Planning to move to Dubai end of this year for job hunting, so just checking the status. I am in IT and not in construction, but I guess its all related

Well, you're persistent in moving to Dubai..it's almost 4 years since you first came on and started asking. I wish you good luck.

However, yes, there are some small indications that things are improving. Moving to Muscat in June and have recently sold our (Emaar - not Nakheel) villa which has appreciated some 20% since this time last year. Before any naysayer jumps in we bought off-plan in 2003 and, despite the boom and bust situation in Dubai, we have still made a handsome profit, thank you.
Another however would be that we have a friend who is in IT. He has had to move back to the UK and join the ranks of the unemployed because two contracts he was involved in eventually came to nothing despite months of hard work on his part for which he was never paid.

Dubai is massively profiting from the Arab Spring, high oil prices and a pick up in global trade. Hotels are booming, restaurants are busy again, house prices are up as people look for somewhere to park their savings and live. Most of Dubai's gains are at the expense of Bahrain and Egypt.
Does all of this translate into tertiary high paid western expat jobs? I'm going to guess no.
