Hi folks,
I'm looking for some indication of potential earnings for a UK qualified Bds Dentist with 5 years experience. Very well respected school (Glasgow).

Anyone any ideas? Really struggling to find any data on this. I've heard US/Canadian/European Bds and DDS are highly regarded.

my old gaffer from Finland's wife (a qualified dentist also) came over and managed to get employment as a dentist...I knew she had to complete some kind of registration process..

Id ask but the next time i see him, he will be in need of a dentist...

how do you register with a dentist over here anyway? are they any good?

same as for the doctor, you go to any dentist you want...they do get booked up quite far in advance though. There seem to be some excellent dentists around...

are they expensive? any idea how much for a check up and clean?

well i had a crown recently and it was 3,000 dhs which i thought was bloody expensive, but friends say it's on a par with private dentists at home...I know a filling, here, for example is about 400-600 dhs depending what type you get. Think a check up and clean is about the same, but may be wrong, i can't remember...

Fortunately I've had free dental care since my wife started dental school although the first few years were a bit ropey with a lower left 6 filling taking an hour but she's fast now fortunately and treating the lucky folks of South Lanarkshire, scotland...until that is she can treat the lucky folks of Dubai!!

By the way, those figures sound about the same as private dentistry in the UK.

Ok just found a posting on another forum (indeed dot com?) that quoted a guy earning 12000 US$ (sorry I know...bloody $$$) per month as a Oral Hygienist in Dubai. If this is the case then by UK standards Dentists earn significantly more than Oral Hygienist.

Still on the hunt for some evidence of the dubai dentist earnings...although might not need it as the wife is heading out in April to meet some clinics in Jumeirah and healthcare city.

Really? Damn...I had high expectations there of me becoming a stay at home dad!!! Beach one day, desert camping...oh that would have been the life!
