Yes , Housing is very cheap in RAK , but I was wondering , do you have a job offer there as well ?
I would be much better for the two of you to work .
and Yes , you can save that and live comfortable , off course , that also depends on your life style and spending habits .

one last thing , there is not much going on in RAK , you might feel bored but Dubai is only a drive away .

I don't have anything yet, Im a qualified carpenter with a management diploma, doesn't get you anything over there so just started a degree online with an Irish college. I don't expect to get anything quickly but I'm willing to do anything really, I wouldn't like to not work, as you said it would get boring very quickly! I'm glad that you reckon that wage will be good over there, lifestyle not extravagant, nice place to live, good car, normal things really!

Have you lived/worked there?

I am in Oman pal ,
But I know about the UAE and life in there ,
As an expat I go by one rule " you're here to make money, not to spend it"
Now I know its easier said than done but you have to live by that if you want to save
Its tough for a man not to work while his woman is working but be patient
And try to get a degree in English language , people here pay alot to learn English from
A native speaker so relax and enjoy your life .

Hi everyone,

I've been offered the following for a position in Doha, Qatar. Family of 4 (2 kids). We'll be single income. I have about 15 years in my field. Senior manager. All are in Qatari Riyals below:

Base salary: 40,000/month net
Company pays for accommodation: 25k/month
Company pays for children's tuition: 140k/year total cost of 2 kids
Company pays transportation allowance: 3,000/month
Company pays communication allowance: 3,000/month
Company pays for flights for family 1x/yr
Company pays for health care
30 working days vacation per year
1 month performance bonus at end of year

Anyone have any thoughts on the package? We are not the 'BMW'-type family. More of a Toyota Corolla-type

thx

Hi
I am new to the middle east, (I did look into moving to Canada a couple of years back hence the previous posts)
Currently I have telephone interviewed and told I can expect to hear news in early Jan, I know I have been short listed. The job is teaching oil and gas. I currently have a small mortgage and we get by in the UK on our joint income fairly comfortably, have the usual debts, cars loans etc. I am currently on take home 2k a month I would like to match that in savings and I will live in abu dhabi my wife will remain in the UK currently (her father is elderly). I am a bit of a quiet guy now, hardly go out my main entertainment is playing in a band most weekends so no drink involved. Occasional glass of wine occasional beer watching a movie. The offer is below but I have no concept of this and how it would work out to enable me to send some of the cash home? Any advice, hints, tips etc. would be very much appreciated

50,000 pound tax free = 23500dhs per month
150,000 housing allowance - = 2 bed apartment
free car loan
5,000 pound furniture startup allowance- enough for the basics
bus to and from place of employment and a couple of bonus's

From what you have described, I would imagine that you would be comfortably able to send home 15k AED a month.

Look at it this way:

food - 3k a month for a single would cover it.
car - 2k (repaying that loan, that's assuming a 100k car over 4 years. A 50k car would be perfectly acceptable and probably better than you have at home).
entertainment - 1k by the sounds of things
Utilities - 200 AED in AD for a flat
Misc - petrol, fags, clothes, take-aways - 800AED

Clothes - I assume you will be wearing old ACDC t-shirts or stuff from the UK, they are expensive here, but you can always shop next online for less than the UK price.

So an outlay of 7k a month, will keep you fed, watered, cool, clothed, clean and reasonably entertained (1000 AED will give you 4 nights at 250AED A night (beer is expensive).

Take up some sport or something to give you a non-beery, non-hookery focus. A decent gym membership will cost you 350aed a month.

Don't forget to budget for flights to see the misses... unless of course that's why you are coming here :D

Thank you Millhouse - This is really clear and installs confidence that I am doing the right thing and we can afford it. Gives so much more information than I could have gathered from browsing websites etc. to hear from someone with direct first hand experience.
Your mental picture is very good - I have the ACDC T shirts, I definitely have a real requirement to get in the gym! lol No Goatee and No Harley!
Many thanks its real appreciated when people like yourself post and help us "lost souls"
Thank you

Re: "Is It Worth It" - a guide to costs vs income for the UAE & Qatar

Hi All

Happy New Year!

I have a job offer for Dubai and want to gauge opinion if it will work . . .

We will be a single income family with one child age 5. We are British, I have 15 years in my industry in a regional role and will be taking on a similar but international role.

Base salary: 22,000/month net (aligned to current basic, but potential 35% bonus in current role, no bonus in new role)
Company provides furnished 3 bed accommodation or allowance 13.5k/month plus 45k one off if unfurnished or non company property
Company pays for children's tuition: 46k/year per child primary (76k secondary) up to 3 children
Company pays transportation allowance: 1,380/month
Company pays for flights for family 1x/yr
Company pays for health care
42 working days vacation per year plus national days

I think it seems reasonable although lower than asked for, but as I say, looking to gauge opinion.

Many thanks for all thoughts.

Hi,
I've been offered the following for a doctor specialist position in Doha. We are family of 3 (5 year old kid) and we'll be single income. What do you think about offer?

Base salary: 21,000 Rials
Company pays for accommodation: 11k/month
Company pays transportation allowance: 1,000/month
Company pays for flights for family 1x/yr
Company doesn't pay for health care
Company doesn't pay for children's tuition

Basicly, that is it.

My brother is thinking to move Dubai with his wife after marriage as he already stays there. Concerned about his needs and whether he'll be able to manage everything in his salary.

He gets paid 60k per month and also he have to pay for everything as company doesn't provide anything.

We'll he able to manage to stay over there as it's a question from his fiance too?

You are going to have to clarify.

To move Dubai to where?

Fiance, fiancee or wife? All different...

Most will manage on AED 60k pm but depends what lifestyle they want, if they are paying school fees etc etc
