Women working in Saudi - changes ?
I've only been in KSA 7 months but I went to the local Carrefour in Riyadh today and there are now women working behind the checkout in family only lanes . Apparently this happened a week or so ago . Is this happening in other places ?

Women have been serving in the family lanes in Danube / Panda / Manuel supermarkets in Jeddah for at least a year now.

Must have just started in Riyadh then . Wonder how long before it happens in Panda and other stores .

It's been running in supermarkets in other cities for the last 3-4 years. Ministry of Labor is pushing for employment of women across many categories.
Slower to reach Riyadh since it's more conservative than other cities.

Re: Women working in Saudi - changes ?
I remember a few years back check-out operators in KSA were all non-saudi males. Then almost overnight the posts were Saudi-ised. The moaners said, "This will never work. You can't trust Saudi shebab to turn up and do a job like this !" It took time but the jobs were Saudi-ised. Now Saudi women are getting the chance to do it.
KSA, unlike some other states in the region, has a large population and many of those are low income. This is not UAE or Kuwait. There are actually quite a lot of Saudis who do ordinary jobs for a living.

Yep I regularly chat to the Saudi women on the check-outs in Carrefour, super friendly and generally speak excellent English. One lady I chatted to said she had learnt English entirely from watching Grays anatomy on OSN.
I agree with the sentiments about Debenhams staff they really are an obnoxious bunch ..

it's good that they're there because it means less time waiting at the checkout to pay .
