Singapore?

Like Dubai it isn't cheap, but a more established infrastructure.
For me, it would be too east, as I have to have easy comms (time difference) and travel to europe.

I couldn't live in an apartment as well, so would have to be in the outer districts - but house rentals are pretty steep, even by Dubai levels

singapore is fine. there are plenty of apts. in town off orchard road areas as well as housing out in bukit timah area. it's either city or suburb living and plenty of public transport. beautiful botantical gardens. it's asia for beginners. everything and anything to do there as well as great food and shopping. clean as a whistle and a government that works efficiently and quickly. none of the headache that is here in getting residency/driving license/liquor license established. a bloody nightmare it is here - i say avoid this place like the plague.

getting a driving license hear is more difficult than Dubai. have to do your theory test within 1 year

singapore is likely my next port of call, my office is on Tuas.

been there many times, love the place...

had my first date with my wife in Singapore, slings in Raffles and then a romantic boat trip...

Now we have a little one, what is life like in Sing for family living?

My orchard towers escapades are a thing of the past..i hear its getting knocked down? what no Ipenema bar...disaster

Looks like I will be here for a while yet but I am looking at Canada as I love cold weather and freedom of speech etc (I know call me old fashioned!) but I am also looking at Ireland.

All depends on work but I'd like to be out of here by the time my boy is 10 in time to get him into a decent high school where the other kids parents don't all pick them up in Prado's :p

yes, guess the four floors is over for you!!

family life is great - lots to do with little one. great zoo with night safari as well as other activities. tanglin trust is an excellent school as well just for future reference. we had a lovely penthouse apt. in the leonie hill road area behind takashamiya. if city life isn't for you, there are lovely black and white houses scattered around.

can't recommend it enough - you'll quickly forget this place!!

singapore is great.

Housing in Orchard will set you back £££ if you are paying for it. If company pays then yes go with Orchard.
Bukit Timah is a bit far out and not as nice as other central areas.
If you are looking for a cheaper option I would look at Changi area, imho a bit better than Bkit Timah.
Singapore is great for kids, they'll love Sentosa island. Singapore is also great for travelling to Malaysia, just 45 mins by car and you are into South Mal. Many flights to other destinations in Asia.
Btw Singapore and Canada? Sing every time imho.
Beware of other expats that will paint a bleak picture of worikng for a singaporean, most of it is a load of b...s, certainly not worse than working for a ME director.
Have you considered KL? Thats another great place, cheaper than Singapore.

next: who knows. if not the ME then bangkok, se asia somewhere or even the uk (as long as its remote and rural in scotland and i can escape the rat race)

Re: why UAE, which's next

US, UK, Korea or Singapore (in that approximate order of likelihood).

Re: why UAE, which's next

Bloody hell typical, if I was to put my options down on paper they would be same

Korea- Busan or Keoje Island
UK- Aberdeen/Montrose
US- Houston
Singapore

Singapore and Korea would be company supplied accom, I haven't the foggiest what type of accom they would supply. If the standard of accom they supply here is comparable (pricewise, not size) then it should be ok.

Anyway I've a good couple of years at least here the way things are progressing

heard that Orchard Towers had gone En Bloc but I think there are a lot of En Bloc properties that will remain just that until the economy picks up a bit. maybe that will happen wth the 4 floors
