Good response CDB. Getting involved with the wrong employer is a nightmare. I know someone who's been in Doha over thirty years, but he's unusual, and probably gone native. Five years is good going.

My best mate left last year after 3 years there, when his employer (a certain employer that is mentioned in another thread where apparently I know nothing about Qatar since the 1980s) had not got him his multi entry visa, and the HR section refused to give him an exit visa asap as his wife had gone into labour at 30 weeks back in their home country during a quick visit (Europe), because he hadn't given them sufficient notice (errr wtf?), so he missed the premature birth of his first child.

I left doha because my inept employer, when asked for an exit visa, said 'I'll think about it.' I moved on , happily, to Dubai.Never work for a local company in Qatar. They show too much stupidity and delight in frustration.

You don't know nothing about Qatar AD2014 as had been proven with your Booze licence tale amongst others. That above is certainly an exception and not a rule, I dont know anyone that cannot get an exit permit at short notice. Also the kefala system will be abolished shortly..

So because my experience as a visitor rather than a resident in February 2014 is not the same as your experience, my experience is completely invalid? and because you don't know anyone who cannot get an exit permit at short notice, but I do, I must be wrong?

Ive heard that the exit permit system will be replaced , replaced by what is another matter , it's the same as the sponsorship system .
Qatari's run a landlord economy here and get rich on the back of birthright and land . To give that up will not come quickly or lightly.

The system will somehow be diluted for 2022 and FIFA but will only apply in a very few specific instances , it's the same as the proposed limit for housing labour which im going through now , it doesn't help the labour it just makes the whole thing more difficult to operate whilst driving up costs and thus eventually the labour becoming victims of piss poor firms . It will just become a new unenforced system instead of an old one , same crap different world wide media roll out .

Expect nothing from these people when they're forced into a so called cultural backdown and more importantly a one which takes from the pocket of their own Dish Dash

You told a poster that they needed a Liquor license to go out drinking, That is wrong. You also quote one person who couldn't get an Exit Visa again that is not the norm for most of us here. If you are giving advice to people looking at coming here at least know what you are saying to them if 100% correct.

People look at this forum for answers the least we can do is answer them correctly.

Do residents not need to have a licence to have booze in their house and to consume it anywhere, including buying in licensed premises, as they do in Dubai? Here that is much overlooked but is technically the case, even if no one asks for it.

The rules are the same here as in Dubai. In Doha you must present your licence to buy from the Booze shop but other than that unless some shit has hit a fan somewhere you never have to produce it - Much like the UAE.

FWIW The licence has a set limit per month you can use, this is around 6,000. Basically it stops someone selling on the booze on the black market
