Same thing happenned to me very recently...Now I am a sales representative with a 5 figure salary...Now those guys let a piece of paper stand between me and greatness...Oh well...

Well it brought it home to me when I got here what a degree and bits of paper can represent out here.
Being in a teaching role here I have seen many adult students do very little except turn up occasionally on courses. In class they may be texting and whispering away on calls, turn up late, leave early, have a concentration span of around 20 minutes...clearly some issues are way above their ability to learn. However some of these students are more qualified on paper than me with a long list of courses attended and passed. Some have degrees and PHD's... Some have little practical experience in the workplace.
I've watched lowly paid but highly qualified translators spending weeks of work time or their private time to do all the degree or PHD work required for senior people who do nothing themselves.
You can guess who I am talking about - certainly not all but clearly there are a number who would be unemployable in the UK despite a catalogue of qualifications.
Anyway, like much of this thread suggests work and life experience is valuable and worth a lot. In the UK I worked with some intelligent people, degrees etc. but their common sense and employability was questionable.
