buy them here... most places do not come with any appliances unless you are shipping then bring it all.

If you are getting full shipping then take them - the plugs and voltage are the same out here anyway.

E-commerce isn't very advanced out here but Carrefour have an online store - https://www.carrefouruae.com/webstor...en&country=uae.

Or, buy second hand from Dubizzle and save a packet.

Good luck with the move

It seems that even cookers are not standard, you have to buy this too . I can't imagine shipping one of these.

There's a huge second hand market for these sort of things, including cookers. As well as dubizzle, already mentioned, there is at least one facebook page, and all the spinneys & abela supermarkets (plus a few others) have for-sale boards with white goods, furniture, tvs etc being sold by departing expats. No need to ship them unless, as in your case, you have them already and the company is paying, or you have space in your container to fill.

If you are bringing any of these, be aware also that some brands commonly bought in the UK aren't sold here, so repairs might be difficult.

How easy is it to arrange transport and delivery of these second hand items out there ?

Are there "man with a van" services ? Some of these items require 2 strapping people to carry and a big van or lorry to transport eg. Cooker.

Easy enough. They all gather around the post office near the gold-souk (so called) looking for work - and no doubt in other places also.

Thanks , and I imagine its inexpensive too. In the UK this sort of thing would be cost prohibitive and necessitate a trip to eg. Currys . V useful tip !

Do they honour their warranties in the UAE? Because I've seen them laugh at customers and blow them off on warranties on electrical goods in KSA.

We've had a fridge bought from them repaired under warranty, so yes.

The retailers do not honour warranties they send you off to the suppliers workshops.

Personally I would not contemplate shipping white goods from UK - not worth the hassle. But we have probably got through 20 fridge freezers and washing machines over the last 30 years of expat life,

Voltage in UK is 230, it is 220 in UAE and 240 in Qatar which is no problem. frequency is 5o Hz same as UK. However in KSA frequency is 60 Hz hence everything goes faster and there can be problems.
