Thanks girls, that was positive. We try to live comfortably but i watch where I am buying and how much I am spending. Unfortunately we just have to, and probably would do the same in Dubai...And you know everything is so closer, I dream of visiting so many countries in Europe, that I can not even thing right now from Australia.

I did not know that rent has to be paid one year in advance. Is that custom for all rents?
So give me some idea of good package (in numbers), what to look or strive for?
As all the salaries or packages are pure abstract notion at this stage?

rent is nearly always payable 1 year up front. but some landlords accept it in 2-3 cheques handed over at the start but be cashed during the year. It should be part of the package that the company advances the rent. But this can then be a problem if the job doesnt work out!

AED50k a month is a good salary for a couple with no kids. You can live it up AND save! Plus if both are working, then you'll be rocking!

I understand that you have 2 kids, I know nothing about them so somebody else would have to advise you re school fees etc.
If you want a villa you will have to pay approx 200,000dhs a year plus you have to pay a 5% deposit and if you go through an agent another 5% fee. there is also a housing tax that is 5% for your rent which is payable each month with your elect and water bill and a 200dhs deposit for DEWA (elect and water)
I pay approx 1200dhs a month in the summer and 300/400 in the winter for water and elect, this doesn't include house tax cos I don't pay it! I live in a 4 bedroom villa in Al Barsha which are stand alone villas. You would prob be happier somewhere like the Springs if you have kids (although it is very Stepford wives!)
I agree with IG 50K a month should see you nicely.

Bloody Hell! If I was earning anywhere near AED 50K I would be in cloud cuckoo land! In my profession, AED 20K is all you can get.

I can well believe that paying school fees would be a killer - luckily there is a brilliant grammar school which my daughters go to in the UK, so it's not an expense that I have to bear....
