Does anyone know where the Traffic & Licensing Department is? I need to get a local licence. For that matter, has anyone done this in Abu Dhabi recently and do I really need to take an eye test?

That's what I thought, but my wife got her licence done (arranged through her work) and didn't have to take an eye test. Powerful friends, obviously...

So do I just turn up with the requisite documents and take the eye test there and then, then they give me a new licence? Is it as chaotic as the medical tests for residence visa? Seeing as I have to do this on a work day I'm trying to be as forewarned/forearmed as possible.

When my Lisa got her license she had to have the eye test...

I was in the room - the dozy cow couldn't make out the symbol when it was pointing left (she thought it was a letter and had been responding, M, E, W...) - so I answered on her behalf... "very good" the man said.

Returning to my original question, whereabouts is the actual place? I used to think that the lack of an address system was quaint and endearing. Now I just find it annoying.

Go on Salam street, drive for ages (but not as far as the mosque or park) you see a sign for it on the right. 'Vehicle Licensing Department'

Road number? God knows, I never bothered to learn them...

Or get a taxi. It is the one single place that EVERY taxi driver knows.

sorry didnt see this thread. fyi licences/registration etc in muroor is between 4th and 2nd st and between 27th and 25th.

murour traffic police station is just off 4th st at 21st by the "big policeman on a stick".

and i live right outside the traffic consilate place, if you go to 23rd street beside the indian school take a u turn then first right and continue up the street its all on your left side x

Endulging my OCD compulsion for completeness, I thought I'd close out this thread by saying that I finally got my driving licence done last week and definitely didn't have to do an eye test.

There, that feels better.
