Where to live in Dubai

Hello all reading from Dubai,

I am hoping to be able to move to Dubai soon, having recently left Singapore and now back in Paris.

I'm going to be looking for somewhere to live that's not more than 20 mins drive from Jumeirah beach developments. My normal form in SE Asia was to avoid the usual 'expat' type areas as they tended to be overpriced and you end up seeing all the same people you've just spent the day working with. In Singapore for example, I lived near Paya Lebar MRT on the east coast.

What I will be looking for:-

Preferably small villa either with or w/o pool and v. small yard. If that's not possible, a very low density apartment or townhouse type thing. Two/three bedrooms, but does not have to be super luxury and I'm used to doing odd/diy jobs around the place.

Do places come with white goods fitted? As I will be bringing my furnishings from France, I'm looking for an un-furnished place. Does un-furnished give any special problems (lease term etc.)?

Any info about areas I should start looking in and websites of agencies or newspapers would be much appreciated.

Not totally sure by what your mean by Jimeriah Beach Developments but have taken this to mean the Marina / Internet city area. To be within 20 nins drive this limits you to Jebel Ali, Barsha and Jumeriah. All of which have large expat communities but Barsha is probably the most "local" area. To be honest it is hard to avoid expats anywhere within 20 mins of Jumeriah.

The type of villa you are looking for doesn't really exist in barsha, there may be a few in Jumeriah / Umm Sequein. Small Villas are more common in Mirdiff by the airport but that is more than 20 mins drive.

You don't give a budget but small two bedroom villas / townhouses are AED 40,000 upwards in Mirdiff more in Jumeriah.
Apartments tend to be In Bur Dubai (30 / 40 mins to Jumeriah) or Jebel Ali Village but none are low density.

White goods are commonly fitted in apartments but not often in villas. Unfurnished is the norm around here.

For details look in the Gulf News (available on line) there are too many agencies to list.

Good Luck
