Default Where do I find a good maid agency?

Hello there,

I last checked global recruit but their site is down and somehow my google search turns out to be useless, too. I need a live-in maid for full time work. I'm not partial to picking one up from the supermaket blackboard, etc.

Can anyone give me advice re agencies, etc? Many thanks!

You are going to get a lot of stick for this post, but I will let the others do that and give you some advice.

The agencies are awful. Don't be thinking that they will be honest, reliable or nice. They are basically outlets for people trafficking where you make your decision based upon a photo alone.

Finding someone from a supermarket board isn't actually a bad option as you can meet them first and see if you get on with them and maybe speak with their previous employers.

Good info from EM

We had maids for the first 18 years here, 4 I believe, and all were Sri Lankans. All from word of mouth and all very pleasant and reliable. Maybe the fact we allowed their husbands to live with them was a factor but they got on with their own jobs and were no problem. Treat them kindly and we certainly found they responded the same. Maybe because I paid 1000 back in 1985 helped? Reasonable hours like 8-1 4-6 and occassional baby sitting helped I guess. 6 day a week. Good luck.
