A road system that makes Dubai look carefree.
But in general I think Sharjah (as a place to visit) is ok. It's more interesting than Dubai and there is certainly more to do. It's just getting there that puts me off.
As for living there...the commute would have me murdering people within a week

Thanks for starting this thread
Where supposed to be moving to Dubai Sept this yr and i'm still tossing as to where to live. My husbands work will be around Sharjah so were thinking that living there would be the better option. But after lurking around this forum for a while LOL, now i'm starting to think otherwise.
Is it just about the traffic situation, or is it more then that LOL.

I have friends that live in Sharjah too, and they are all very happy there...It all depends on what you are after I guess.
Don't be put off by what people on the forum post, just make up your own mind when you come over.

also I think if you haven't lived in Dubai anyway, what difference does it make. There is a good expat community in Sharjah too and some great shopping!

Oh...just came back from Sharjah actually....friends had moved house, big single story villa, with big mature garden, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, big hallway, kitchen, living room and diningroom for 90.000 p/a. Very nice, it was an older property but had a bit of caractar about it, think French B&B....

Thanks for the replies.
My hubby is in the process of finding a villa for us while his over there now. He said similer things about getting better value for money etc. I'm trying to keep an open mind about the whole move and not have to many expectations, hopefully that way i won't set myself up for a big fall
But while where on the Sharjah topic, any area's in Sharja u guys recommend or schools etc

I know a couple of people who live in Sharjah, I'll ask.
Seriously. Westerners hate Sharjah because you can't drink...thats basically it.
I find it more interesting than Dubai, with far more interesting things to see and do.

I'm in Sharjah and must say I'm not missing alcohol a great deal... The Indian in me is thrilled at the environs, decent food, vegetarian, at such reasonable prices, so much so that cooking for myself is actually more expensive than a full meal out (south Indian thali for AED 3.50 anyone?)
Then again I do notice the dearth of Western expats. The white faces you see here tend to be Russians, who are incredibly friendly and a good laugh by the pool but once I move out of the hotel into a flat, I would like to do 'English' things, I dunno what exactly, but the kind of thing that I would spend an occasional evening doing in Surrey rather than in Trivandrum.
Not that living in Dubai could even be countenanced on my package anyway!
Still once I get settled I have no doubt most of the fun is to be had in Dubai or at least out in the country (though people have said the season for desert camping etc is over until next autumn...)
Sorry I've rambled. I'm still not used to being in the office on a Sunday
