What's worth picking up in the ME?
When I was in Abu Dhabi and Doha on my last trip, as the canny Scot, I was looking for what is worth buying in the ME instead of back in the UK. I looked at the typical stuff sold there: electronics, bloody expensive handbags (not for me, honest!), watches, sunglasses, etc. But found nothing I wouldn't be better of e-shopping for in the UK.
In the end I spent a stupid amount of money on a gold bracelet for the wife but I don't think I got ripped off considering the price of gold today. I could well be wrong but let's ignore that, it was a compulsive purchase at best and may yet turn out to be a convulsive purchase to the bank manager.
Did I miss a trick? I'm not in the market for shipping furniture but will be building my own house in a couple of years so shipping large/raw material items is not that uninteresting ... what is worth hunting out when in the Middle East for bringing home?

Food and smokin'! That's better. And I guess the bong tobacco is something unique to the area. I mean the tobacco you're *meant* to use with it.
Now cooking classes could be fun but I'm out in deepest darkest Ruwais. Only the golf course for company!
