What's Kuwait Like?
Just talking about a new role that will involve travel to Doha/UAE/Kuwait etc. Now having been to the former but never the latter - can anyone tell me what sort of place it is?
It'll just be for a few days each month so nothing too serious.

If it's for a few days you will be OK! Long term it can be boring as there isn't much to do plus it is dry. The driving is much worse than UAE and Qatar. On the plus side (for us anyway) there aren't too many Western Expats of the type you find in Dubai which is a refreshing change.

It's a country in the Middle East populated by Arabs and expats. It's very, very hot and humid 9 months of the year. It's Islamic...anything else?

Re: What's Kuwait Like?
I lived in Kuwait for 2 and half years and there was some times I hated it but on the whole I loved it, we are now in UAE and I really miss Kuwait!
Yes there is no alcohol or pork but there are ways round that if you want.
The roads are a nightmare and the place isnt as lovely to look at as some middle east countries. However there are less expats than in the UAE and they tend to be more friendly and helpful! We had a much larger group of friends there and had a blast!
We had our child there and I met a lovely group of mums who I still keep in touch with!
The other huge bonus with Kuwait is that although shopping is expensive, petrol is cheaper than UAE and because there is little to do we actually found it very easy to save money!

Ever read 'Alice In Wonderland'? Kuwait is like that; nothing is quite what it seems, and what you don't expect to find, is findable...
Perhaps best viewed as 'Malice In Wonderland'....
An odd , enchanting, frustrating and infuriating place, but remember, it is a hell of a lot more laid back than Saudi, even if the locals should never have been let in on the invention of the car...
So, Kuwait. The original Curates egg. Good in parts...

Is USD32K a year, plus accomodation etc, a decent living wage? Considering there is not much to do but shop and eat could I save at least 40%

If you want to save 40% of 9000KD that will give you approx 450KD per month to spend (assuming no accommodation/utilities bills)
Thats easily doable depending on your dietry habits, shopping habits and depends how often you want to leave Kuwait for breaks
