We cant Go home for christmas
Hey guys,
Just found out we cant go home for christmas as my hubby's company says they need him here to cover as everyone else has had their holidays in.... Im gutted! Unfortunately family cant come here, hubby's family are welcoming the birth of twins (our niece and nephew), my family is just small and my grandad wont fly therefore mam wont come over!
A lass at work said christmas is boring here
So for you peeps who have spent christmas here, is there anything you can recommend for two youngins to do on christmas day!
Is there anywhere that serves a good christmas dinner!
a very tearful MrsHaps xx

We have spent nine of the last ten Xmases here in either Dubai or Saudi and have enjoyed ourselves every time...no question that Dubai at Xmas is a great experience. Boxing Day lunch on the beach...amongst other activities.

It's a normal working day for most of the population. We've done one Christmas here, purely because I only had three days of leave left and couldn't go home, and it was okay but it just didn't feel like Christmas.
I guess if you're used to a northern European climate then Christmas in the sun can seem exotic and exciting, but when you live out here and you've got past the novelty of the climate being pretty much the same every day it's obviously just same-old same-old. Since Christmas Day isn't specified as a public holiday by the UAE labour law, many companies don't give it as a mandatory holiday; if you want the day off you have to take it as a leave day.
On the flipside, everyone, regardless of religion, is entitled to all the Islamic public holidays plus the shorter working day during Ramadan

I don't miss much about the UK but I am going to miss xmas and my grand children and children, love to see them open their pressies on xmas day, then few beers and back for lunch. Remember being in Orlando at xmas few years ago and it was quite good but they of course celebrate xmas, also remember they had fake snow machines blowing snow out all over a central square, cheesy I know but some kids there had never seen snow.
Also companies in the Uk in my line of work always shut down from 24th till after new year, but in reality xmas started beginning of Dec as people got into the xmas spirit, works parties etc, then there was the oh shit what have I done and said after the office party.
Can't believe we are talking about xmas in August!
