Default Visit Visa Fees up 400% from 1June

From the Gulf News:

A one-month visit visa will now cost Dh500 as compared to Dh100 earlier which was valid for two months.

According to the amended visa fees list, a "long-term" visit visa will cost Dh1,000.

Sources at the Naturalisation Department said this visa will be valid for three months.

The tourist visa fees has not gone up and will still be Dh100 for a 30-day visit.

The multiple entry visa will now cost Dh2,000 as compared to Dh1,000 earlier. The multiple entry visa is valid only for 30 days each visit.

Is this going to effect us then? We are British and as such do not have to pay to get into the UAE!

Think they'll first put Salik on every road, introduce VAT, then various other fees and charges

At a guess, a visit visa allows you to enter the country to conduct business. You can't do that (legally) on a tourist visa.

My guess is that the visit visa has a 30 day grace, so you effectively pay AED 500 for 2 months. No extensions for tourist visa - you have to exit on expiry...
