Visa Run!!!

Hi

My visit visa is very close to expiring, and somebody suggested a visa run is the common thing done. I looked on Wiki but couldnt find anything about visa run, just the 500 AED extension for another 30 days.

I have been told a few things, quiche, which i liked the sound of with a bit of ketchup, and a trip to Oman. But if there is one thing l have learnt here is that to be very careful of what ppl tell you, as with some it is often a load of BS. So if anyone has any info that could help, or has done it themselves, thus would be very helpful. And is there a penalty for overstay?

Plus, a change of subject i know, does anyone have spare ticket or two for the Russell Peters Show at the Crowne Plaza. SOLD OUT :( . For those who do not know about Russell Peters and like a good lauf check out the link below.

And thx in advance for any info on the visa run

It's been discussed in previous threads a while back, so you might get lucky searching back for it :)

Piece of cake. Drive to the Oman border just past Al Ain or Hatta, get stamped out, enter Oman, turn round and come back into the UAE.

That's only for certain passport holders LJ, ie, those that can enter the UAE without a visa....

One would have thought it was a safe assumption, especially on a website called BRITISH expats.

FFS.

Not in the slightest, you'd be amazed at who's here, loads of different nationalities.

Get out of bed on the wrong side did you this morning?

It's the beginning of the week. I'm back at work. Someone keeps sending me annoying text messages...

Well it should be easy provided you don't pick a bad day. Took me hours just before New Year (at Hatta). Ended up queueing in the Oman visa building (no idea what it's really called) for over 2 hours. With waits at the 'sheds' Dubai side, the round trip took over 6 hours.

Never again! (Fortunately I travel on business for won't have to.)

I heard a rumour about the border being shut the next day, but never found out if it was true. Still don't know why it was so busy as several people I spoke to do it regularly & reckon it usually takes minutes to sort out documents.

I would just like to say that the Omani officials were utterly charming considering they were working flat out & lots of people were very rude to them.

There is no problem with it. It happens a lot and they live with it. They've even built a new border control building. I also took a while to get through and back. It was quite busy. The actual process wasn't very clear, especially the whole rental car / insurance thing and driving through a customs checkpoint about 5kms before the actual border. Luckily we booked into the HF Hotel and made a weekend of it.
