oh i think you're being too kind...i can't believe for one minute the stuff was planted. Serves them right...the thing that pisses me off though is that high profile tossers like that record producer, whose name escapes me at the mo, got off last year cos he he didn't know it was illegal to bring coke into Dubai...it's the double standards that grate more than anything...

I mean it's wrong, but have some perspective.
And the Canadian UN drugs inspector that was jailed for 4 years - that is insane - Big Mo has to pardon him during Ramadan. Do a google for it...

The article claims one of the two came 'back to Dubai from Afghanistan' - so presumably he was neither a first timer out of the UK, nor was he a tourist (OK he might be but an Expat in Dubai travelling to Afghanistan and back is more likely to have gone on business, no?) and would be expected to be more savvy about these things - as such can he really be that stupid as to have thought he would get away with it? On the other hand if the stuff was planted for whatever reason then surely it's less a case of 'morons' than 'there but for the grace...'
The primary hash-producing countries are Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India to name a few so if what is written is right and he did indeed come from Afghanistan then he could of picked it up there?
Who knows the real facts!

My only point was that it's unlikely he was a naive tourist, working here and holidaying in Afghanistan in 2007, and more likely than your average holidaying Chav to know what he was getting himself into.
In any case is Afghanistan known for cannabis cultivation? Or South Asia for that matter? I thought the hotspot was central Asia (Kazakh etc). Post-Taleban Afghan has gone back to poppy cultivation, which was also a big export for the British who converted large swathes of northern India to poppy cultivation to feed their hunger for trade supremacy in Guandong leading to the takeover of Hong Kong.

I guess at the end of the day ''just don't do it'' unless you are travelling through the UK where then you will get, special drug councilling treatment, a new house, money in the bank awarded for stress caused by the experience and a holiday to the Seyshells to recouperate

When will people learn? If you want to break the law in the UAE, do some kind of sexual asssault. The chances are you'll get off, and if not you'll do six months and then get a free plane ride home.

I once spoke with a very senior Customs official about this, and he said a considerable majority of the traffickers are young women doing it for their drug dealing boyfriends/husbands overseas. He said they pretty much never capture the men, and it is always the women who pay. For years.
Oh and they're not desperate crack whore types either. Many are even university educated, intelligent women that are just putty in the hands of some asshole dealer.
