US embassy in Dubai - Closure

Subject: RE: UAE Warden Message

The following information contains subjective analysis by commercial intelligence vendors and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Corporate Regional Security Manager, or the Halliburton organization

United Arab Emirates (UAE): US embassy in Dubai to close temporarily on 21 January following unspecified threat
According to a warden message issued by the US embassy, the US consulate general in Dubai will be temporarily closed on 21 January. All services including American citizen services and visa application and interview services will be suspended during the closure. It is unclear when operations at the mission will resume.
Analysis
Although unusual, temporary closures of US missions have occurred in the past. The closure of the US consulate general has been decided on the basis of security information provided by the local authorities regarding an unspecified threat against the mission. Heightened security measures can be expected at all US diplomatic missions in the UAE in the coming days, particularly in Dubai, as local and US authorities investigate the threat. A security review is expected to be conducted at the mission before it resumes its operations.
US diplomatic missions in the region have been targeted by terrorist attacks in the past. In September 2008, militants attacked the US embassy in Sana'a (Yemen), killing at least 16 people and injuring six others. In March 2004, the US embassy in Abu Dhabi was temporarily closed after a specific threat against the mission was received; the mission re-opened shortly after. In May 2005, the US diplomatic mission in Indonesia was temporarily closed due to a similar threat.
Travel Advice
• Avoid the direct vicinity of the Dubai World Trade Centre, which houses the US consulate general, located on Sheikh Zayed Road.
• Personnel conducting essential business in the area should maintain heightened security awareness and report suspected items to the police, who can be reached on 999.
• Contact respective embassy/consulates and monitor the local media for the latest information and developments.
• Monitor the website of the US consulate in Dubai for information regarding the resumption of services at the mission

It sounds like it is just for the 21st or am I reading it wrong?

Not good and, yes, there is Arab Health next Mon-Thurs at the convention center. Will be there with bells on but don't really need any "excitment". <keeping fingers crossed all will be well>

Phoned them and they were unaware of USA Consulate situation so I went and collected my daughter's new passport, no problems.

Do you mean the Awards Dinner? I think we have a complete table even though none of our "people" made the short list (last year we had winners!!) At least that was the plan the last meeting we had.

So, how can I find you? ;)
