UAE temporary driving licence
I am going this week to get a 6 month temp licence while my company mess about sorting my residency, I've read on the UAE embassy site it allows me to drive private cars
Question, can I insure a car or can I drive out insured by someone else that allows other drivers on there policy
Thanks

there is no such thing, there used to be a few years ago. in order to drive a private car you should have a local driving licence, there is always discussion about this, if you ask your insurance company they usually say as long as rta agree, but then try getting anything in writing..... unless you have that i wouldnt trust it, if you were to have an accident, the insurance company would try and not pay up as you would be driving without a legal driving licence etc and then not insured. hire a car like everyone else does until the visa comes through.

Can I drive a private vehicle on my UK Driving Licence in the UAE?
No, but you can obtain a temporary UAE driving licence for 6 months even if you are not resident. This can be arranged at the Traffic Police Office in each Emirate.

if your company haven't actually applied yet for your visa and you are officially here as a tourist you can rent on your UK Licence

But remember to take the paper part of the license with you as rental companies can sometimes ask for it. Best of all take an international driving license with you.
