Thinking of applying for a job teaching English in UAE, would there be any major reasons not to?/

not really, which school?? some packages aren't that good. If you go with GEMS education you would end up on about 14,000 a month with a 1 bed apartment if you are single or a 2 if you are married. Depends on experience etc. 2000 quid a month take home, is that more than you are getting in UK?? cost of living here is expensive but you could manage on 14k no problem as there is nothing to pay out of it apart from car hire or loan.
